Artist: Baker, AidanTitle: I Fall Into You Label: Basses Frequences Format: CD Catalog #: bf1.1.2 Condition: new Price: $15.00
Description: The newly-remastered version of a set originally recorded by Aidan Baker on a simple four-track cassette and released on CDR label Public Eyesore in 2002. Cleverly and deservedly re-released to reach the growing audience for Aidan Baker´s quality material. The delicate looping and sophisticated drum programming of "Lapse" happen beneath a gray lazy guitar sky. The near half-hour "Lysis" is an ambient opera, building moods slowly and quietly and opening spaces for Baker´s poetry (and a bit of Buddhist doggerel) as recited by himself and one Naomi Okabe, always eventually returning to the safe haven of the treated guitar leitmotif. A long snare tattoo marches among the voices of ghosts and ancient battle, devolving for its four last minutes into vaguely Beatlesesque loops and backwards running tapes. "Symbiosis" is its shy neighbour, its strummed acoustic guitar also somehow suggesting African thumb piano, persevering as Baker attempts to drown it out with rust and creaking metal fatigue. Gorgeous. The closer "Lethe" can be relegated to the category of beautifully-constructed non-linear ambience - an epilogue that most artists would have made the centrepiece of their own album. Kudos to the label for re-issuing this essential entry in the vast Aidan Baker discography. |
