Nov. 12, 2011 BlRR Presents: Dead Voices on Air w/ Orbit Service, In Better Senses, Brocken Spectre, Vj DizyPixl. at The Walnut Room, Denver, Colorado. Service's return orbit finds them in an acid folk state of mind. They softly churn out cosmic tones that bore directly into the right brain, eliciting a bright reign of psychedelic sprites. Their mystical leanings steer them close to the likes of Sol Invictus, but OS zigs where neo folk zags, giving them a sonic momentum that leads to a much outer part of outer space. This beautifully crafted set smells like moist earth covered in leaves. Orbit Service's mining of ever deeper moods has yielded a subtle treasure that glows like distant sun. Description:

To be issued late June 2011 in a custom made book bound gatefold sleeve. Loon's tunes cast pterodactyl shadows. The guttural guitars travel at the speed of Swans, languidly pounding out metal blasts that would make Sir Lord Baltimore scared. Their juxtaposition of ballsy femme vocals and black metal rasp generates an intense texture dynamic within the syrupy, trudging riffs. Loon is a quaking heaviness, like Hannibal crossing the Alps on Marshall stacks, though the loud is tempered with interesting production and unique arrangements. Loon's sonic crush soars with the loftiest flocks."I have no idea how this record hasn’t gotten more praise, it just might be the most underrated metal album of the past year.  I think a lot of that is simply because nobody knows it exists, it’s self-released, and there’s no website to order from.  Thankfully, they sent it to us to share with all of you.  This Providence, RI three-piece features members of Megasus, Moonshine, Wake Up On Fire, etc.  They play the best possible brand of slow, driving doom metal with the occasional passage of occult folk thrown in."

LOON was conceived of on the shores of Grout Pond in the Green Mountain National Forest by Mis Zill (vocals/guitars, former member of Moonshine, Wake up on Fire) and Anne Marie Ticaric (drums/vocals) in October of 2007. They were soon after joined by bassist Paul Lyons (Megasus) and began to write heavy, melodic songs in a bitterly cold warehouse in Providence RI. These songs are collected on the self titled debut LP released in December 2010. LOON has toured through much of the east coast and across the midwest, and plans to record and tour more in 2011.

"Witchy doomy heaviness from Rhode Island, home of ultra avant doom heavies The Body, electro rockers Six Finger Satellite, spastic hyper noiserock duo Lightning Bolt, and hardcore legends Dropdead, among others, but female fronted doom rockers Loon have way more in common with the current crop of heavies like Jex Thoth, The Devil's Blood, Sub Rosa, Blood Ceremony, Cauchemar, Christian Mistress and Purple Rhinestone Eagle, and fans of any of those bands will definitely dig Loon's stonery psychedelic grooves, and pop flecked Sabbathy doominess, but Loon definitely have their own take on that sounds, beyond the doom aspect, which is really pretty minimal, sure it IS doomy, but it's way more groovy, there's also a serious slowcore vibe going on, a downer pop woven into the group's more metallic heaviness, which ends up reminding us of a way heavier more traditionally metal True Widow, which is totally NOT a bad thing. And then there's the vocals, which are amazing, slipping from demonic screech, to sweet melodious croon, powerful and intense, and often reminding us of country chanteuse Neko Case surprisingly enough. So if you can imagine Neko Case singing for a Sabbathy doomy downer pop stoner metal combo, well then, you might have an idea of what Loon has going on. And while the vocals might be the best we of the bunch, in terms of actually singing, the songs are pretty fantastic too, spacey and psychedelic, groovy and heavy, a little bit proggy, super hooky, with just enough pop, the guitar sound buzzy and crunchy, the drums powerful, the whole sound hooky and heavy, doomy and sort of dreamy at the same time. After a gorgeous hazy bit of psychedelic acoustic guitar, the record finishes with the nearly 10 minute "Grackel" which is the perfect Loon track, mixing all the various elements, the Neko Case like vocals (sounding surprisingly twangy here!), the shrieked demonic howls, the groovy Sabbathy riffage, the super melodic poppiness, the dirgey slowcore, all culminating in a woozy washed out feedback drenched spacey psychedelic outro, that could have (and probably SHOULD have) gone on for ANOTHER 10 minutes. Definitely a new favorite. Anyone into ANY of the above mentioned bands should for sure check this out. " Aquarius Records

DELAYED TO FEB. 2011. The Bog is back and Bogger than ever. His cavity inducing Krystil-clear psych riffs, suspended in jellied electronics are anything but Earthly. Peat and Repeat were sitting on a bridge. Peat fell off. Into infinity. Here's the map. Rinse and repeat. Bog has a real talent both for playing and composition. His musicks are weighted with heavy doses of classic late 60's lysergic lytergics, but his brand of 'delics are uniquely scented by the new millenium. Cosmic, deep, spiraling, melodic, contagious, sexy, weird, rock, roll, trance, pants. Earthmonkey wields these and more. The Monkey lays down on Broadway. To sleep, perchance to dream of Morpheus.

Description:

Ed. of 300 numbered and signed copies available late December 2010. Bitter/sweet Else (both E’s pronounced) appears to have been spat a tuberculin progeria princess from Der Himmel Uber Berlin. She has been fiendishly haunting sonic neithers for the past 20 years with a number of small run cassette and CDR releases and, for a time, as half of Romulus & Remus. “Whored” weds composerly and DIY elements into an experimentally corroded pastiche of pseudo-noise and sub-psychedelia. Her oddly wrought opuses are musical, yet remain damaged enough that they occupy a space that is not quite “tuneful.” The smaller Rainy Day Women pieces sew blown out loops into exquisite corpses of overdriven drone and pulse. The seething, long form “Horde” forms up slowly and steadily like an ever massing din of doom cascading over a distant horizon, eventually filling it. The mournful yet rising Kathode rumbles through like a requiem mass of organ and decaying electronics. Else’s beautiful noise resides somewhere betwixt the primitivism of early Zoviet France and shameless weirdness of early Severed Heads. Even in her reign of misappropriated instrumentation she avoids an improvisational sound. Her compositions have shape and direction. The wrongs sound strong. So click your heels and raise a baeren-jaeger Prost for the mysterious she-teuton and the Pferd she rode in on. In these hinterlands, broken is spoken.

Description:

Issued early October 2010 as an edition of 500 numbered copies with the first 50 numbered and signed. All new Ilitch studio recording! An horrific grandchild springs from the magma: Ilitch'll itch your progadelic scratch with its well manicured talons of fire. This Ilitchian renaissance zigs deep space experimental and zags full metal Zuehl. Electronics chirp and howl like the opening coda of Susperia, then explode into Weidorje intensity fuzz violence, cheered on by a pecussive force that sounds like Mussolini being kicked to death. The shifting interplay between total rockers and extraterrestrial missions makes this a powerful release. The concrete tracks reek of classic Kraut weirdness, punctuated by noises that could only come from the melt that is Ilitch. Brutal, tribal rhythms drift in with seering psychedelic squalls, ebbing into the groans of dying satellites. Sometimes it takes a Gaul to have the gall to create something so deliciously avant garde. Allons enfants de la Patrie, la jour d'Illitch est arrive!

Bio: Ilitch
Like other 1970s European electronic rock artists from Heldon to Conrad Schnitzer, Ilitch owes more to the avant-garde experiments of Stockhausen and Xenakis than to the rock and roll of Chuck Berry or even the Beatles… Ilitch came out of France, was the work of mostly one person, Thierry Müller, using unconventional guitars as well as keyboards and other electronics to create strange textures and sounds. Müller was a photographer and graphic artist from Paris who started making recordings in the early 1970s using prepared guitars, harmonium, and even using the tape recorder as another instrument. Initially he worked completely solo but by late 1975 he was being helped by Ruth Ellyeri. In 1976 his brother Patrick Müller on EMS synthisizer and treated guitar joined Ilitch, for a live performance at the Café La Manille, in Paris, and the duo also played there the following two years as well. In October and November of that year, Ilitch recorded the material for the LP "Periodikmindtrouble", but by the time the LP was released, in 1978, the original second side was scrapped for other more recent material. This album featured abstract music that was completely instrumental and with a heavy use of electronics. Though this is considered the first Ilitch LP, in fact a year earlier Müller released "Portraits" in an extremely limited edition of one with hand painted cover. By 1980 Ellyeri, on guitars, vocals and electronics, became more integral to the Ilitch sound, and Müller occasionally added in synth player Philippe Doray (Associaux Associés) and saxophonist Patrick Dubot (Associaux Associés) into Ilitch as well. They released a second LP, "10 Suicides" that year, a more varied album that included some heavily processed vocals as well as a sixteen page booklet with many of Müller's photo-collages. The same year under the Ilitch name was released the cassette "PTM Works" (Patrick and Thierry Müller’s works) on Eurock label, as well as the one-sided EP "Culture", which was credited to him and the graphic designer Edouard Nono. After this Müller took a break from music for a couple years, but in 1982 he began work on a new project. The project eventually became the group Ruth (though Ruth Ellyeri wasn't a part of it), as Müller began collaborating with many more musicians for recordings done in 1984 and 1985. Ruth's music was far more polished and accessible, adding a quirky new wave twist to Müller's textured guitar and synth treatments. The Ruth LP "Polaroid/Romans/Photos" came out in 1985 with a 12-page booklet. That same year, thierry Müller and Philippe Doray worked on the "Crash" project (some concerts in France and Europe) and released an EP called "Pile ou Face". ?Müller stopped making records and devote more time to graphic arts after the Ruth album (labels and distributors were not at the « rendez-vous ! »), though he did release three more extremely limited recordings, "D. Prune Tributes" Volumes 1 through 3 (a « hommage » to painters and musiciens), under his own name between 1989 and 1991. Though his records had limited releases and have long been out of print. In 2000-2001, much of his music has been made available on CD by the Fractal records label with Bonus tracks.
2004. It has been 24 years since Ilitch’s previous solo album. Following the critical acclaim of Fractal’s reissue of his two solo LPs (and his 1985 project Ruth), Thierry Müller (Ilitch’s mastermind) went back to work and, five years later, gave birth to "Hors Temps/Out of Time", a satisfying – if slightly outstretched – slab of electropop truly out of time. Ilitch tackles modern technology with talent, but his music still relies on elements taken from the heydays of Krautrock and Cold Wave, along with a special something that recalls The Legendary Pink Dots or Nurse With Wound. Electronics hold a key place in the arrangements, but Ilitch also put electric guitar, drums and samples to good use, creating stimulating sound environments that don’t get in the way of his simple intellectual songs. His main collaborators are percussionist Hervé Zénouda, guitarist Laurent Saïet and keyboardist Guillaume Loizillon music-wise, engineer Patrick Müller recording-wise, and poet Phillipe Doray lyrics-wise. "Hors Temps/Out of Time" is a sharp, relevant, bold, and downright good opus.
In 2005 was released "Rainy House" (a limited edition of 250 Picture Disc LP+CD). "Rainy House" collects Ilitch material recorded from the late ‘70s + bonus tracks, although many of the older pieces were tweaked, modified and remixed along the way. The first six tracks on Rainy House are the six parts of the haunting minimalist suite "Chambre", a stark, introspective piece performed on an old, slightly detuned piano, accented with sonic filters, fuzz and studio treatments. Comparable at times to some of Battiato’s late ‘70s minimalist work, this actually develops a lot more variation throughout its duration and is thus far more interesting. The remaining two cuts (only on the CD) seem to be of more recent vintage, the first "Désuet" (1987) a 15 minute workout of swirling experimental sounds and textures, a piece wrote for a performance of the poet-performer Julien Blaine (voice, kazoo, and Jew's harp). The final track (2003) features several tracks of sounds coming from a skipping CD mixed together at various intervals. "Rainy House" embodies the more experimental side of Ilitch's work.
January 2007. "Lena’s life & other stories", Ilitch 5th album and suite album to "10 Suicides" (1980). It shows he has lost none of his creative juices and remains one of the most unique artists in France and Europe today. The music is a suite of shorter tracks that conceptually blends into a soundscape of electronic-screaming melodies filled with trippy guitar treatments and oblique pulsations. In conception and execution it’s a masterpiece of experimental progressive poprocks. This album include collaborations with Nicholas Littlemore (Teenager, Pnau) and featuring Mami Chan, Patrick Müller, Roco, Laurent Saët and Franckie del Tango.?Autumn 2007. "Thierry Müller – Rare & unreleased 1974-1984", compilation of works during his first 10 years 1974/1984. Ruth (EP) "Mescalito / Mon pote": two tracks from the first recording sessions of Ruth (1978).
January 2008. Following the improvisation project "Mahayoni Mudra", alongside his solo/Ilitch's works, Thierry develops a new "Ilitch group formula" with Franck de Quengo (Dragibus, French doctors, etc.), Fred Nipi (Harsh Noise performer) and his brother Patrick Müller (L’Ochestre inachevé, Groupe d’essai 3, Pupusse et Patrack, etc.) for live sessions and concerts. In the end of 2009 thierry has begun to work on an new Ilitch album with Lou Chano and Mushy (Italy).
Spring 2010. Rebirth of "Ilitch-PTM Works": Thierry and Patrick Müller duo in the mood of "Rainy house" (acoustic piano, guitars + traitments) for live sessions and concerts.

Available Oct. 15, 2010. The first 50 copies will be numbered and signed. Packaged in a full color gatefold sleeve. Featuring guest performer Edward Ka-Spel (Legendary Pink Dots). The man of silver is a master of negative space. His silences say as much as his notes. Perhaps this is how he can compose a thing that sounds like glaciers conversing. Ringing ubertones breathe sighs of bas-relief at the borealis. The Silveman's sounds are quiet and delicious, like a Rainbow Generator sinking slowly into a rusted hull. These ambiences destroy fascists. Dark and twisting pulses hollowly respirate, imitating their dying. This is the good stuff. With Silverman, the only motoriked thing to fear is atmosphere itself. Thanks to Alena Boykova for melodica on 1, to Edward Ka-Spel for percussion and tapes on 1 and for voice and lyrics on 2 & 3. Beautiful album to be issued mid Oct. 2010 on CD. First 300 copies will be numbered and include a bonus CD of material and signed insert. Pigs, in there? Yes, but if you count them, they will become sheep, which is appropriate as Pepe's music is like drifting into a dream. His hushed vocals sigh just beneath the melody, as if he were in camera with woodland deities. The music moves with patient strides, sometimes swelling to sudden crescendos, accompanied by electronic scrapes and coughs. A slightly damaged, spare, chamber folk-psych, whose distant cousins can be found in the darkly tender moments infused in early Psychic TV/Current 93/Coil, or in the atmospheric postures of Antony & the Johnsons. "Between Sheep & Pigs," like actual sheep & pigs, is a real grower.

Description:

Available late September 2010. All new studio album to be issued as a first edition of 500 copies in a deluxe gatefold CD case. Q: How do you build a Wooden Horse? A: Trees. Sand Snowman's sound hearkens back to a time when people used the word "hearkens." It is possible that this faerie acid folk is made by actual faeries, with the beautiful lilting harmonies and subtle progressive diversions that only small, winged beasties can perform properly. Gentle, with an edge; sitting atop the same cloud as the more mystical Bunyan, Perhacs, or even Bob Trimble compositions. Quiet, but lush with crisp acoustics leading hand percussion and other exotic instrumentation to the sea shore. This is truly an incredible string band, whose jaw-droppingly beautiful album will hopefully have new initiates seeking out the group's several previous releases. Beware, however, as playing this album may result in a bad case of Green Men. .
